Wedding Photography at Wakehurst

On the hunt for the ultimate Mid-Sussex wedding venue? You needn’t look for long, because trust me, you’re going to fall feet first for a Wakehurst wedding. I know I did, when I spent my first day as a Wakehurst wedding photographer at this epic country house. As a Sussex wedding photographer, I cover the entire county (and beyond!) capturing celebrations grand and small, so I’m amazed I hadn’t documented a Wakehurst wedding sooner. One visit was more than enough to get the venue on my radar – here’s why it should be on yours too.

Behind the scenes at this Mid-Sussex wedding venue

The country house itself is a romantic Elizabethan vision of stone walls, intricate windows and dramatic archways. Inside and out, these serve up some seriously stunning backdrops for your Sussex wedding photography.

Think romantic moments for two tucked in the privacy of a huge old doorway. Lively speeches shot against atmospheric wood panelled walls and carved fireplaces. Natural wedding photos as you explore the grounds…

And what grounds they are, although this shouldn’t come as a surprise when you learn that Wakehurst is linked to Kew Gardens. Leafy canopies and the gorgeously wild feeling lake invite nature into your wedding photos. In contrast, the manicured lawns, charming topiary and flower-lined paths add just the right dash of romance and whimsy.

There are secluded corners for your couple shoot, wide open spaces for group shots and plenty of lawns to spread out over your drinks reception. And if the gardens are what steal your heart, you can even throw your reception outside, opening up magical views from a stretch tent, tipi or marquee.

More than simply a stunning setting

From my experience capturing a wedding at this venue, this is a location that delivers on both style and substance. You get the timeless surrounds of the house, the outdoor beauty of the gardens. But you also get top-notch service that makes it easier than ever to plan a stress-free celebration. And we haven’t even mentioned the food, which is sure to keep your guests talking for years to come.

A Wakehurst wedding won’t only get a big tick from you, it’ll go down a treat with your guests too. And as your Sussex wedding photographer, I know just how to capture the magic of it all for you.

Toby & Inga’s Wakehurst wedding

Toby and Inga were the super couple who invited me to be their Wakehurst wedding photographer. The couple tied the knot with an elegant church ceremony, before bringing all their guests over to Wakehurst to kick off the party. The perfect pictures framed themselves as the newlyweds pulled into the drive of the stone house in a black and white classic car.

As we explored the grounds for their couple photos, rain drops splashed into the water, bringing their backdrop to life. Cuddled beneath a pale umbrella (I always come prepared!) we captured the day honestly and authentically. I like to see the weather as an opportunity rather than a challenge. A passing shower was just enough to bring them luck, before the sun returned for more group and garden photos.

Back inside, the couple personalised the party with cultural traditions and the dance floor was packed all night.

Toby and Inga’s wedding was my first time as a Wakehurst wedding photographer, but I know it won’t be my last. Get in touch if you think my next one could be you!
