After each wedding I photograph, I reflect and I always seem to find new ways of loving what I do, and am so proud to have the opportunity to capture when two souls come together, honour their commitment to each other; to embrace the joyride on this blue-green ball. And I make no apologies if I’ve gotten a bit misty-eyed a bit early in this post, as this one’s a real doozy!
What an amazing way to end a summer of photography with a wedding accompanied by the charming symbol of summer; the sunflower.
Mike and Thea were a dream to work with and Mike impressed me from day one with his use of a spreadsheet (I love my spreadsheets) to organise the wedding proceedings (which he then PDF’ed for the selected wedding team members – bonus geek points there).
It all started in the wonderfully big and bright St Michael’s and All Angels church in Brighton, and having observed Mike’s last minute nerves getting the better of him I stole him away for some quiet time with the camera at the back of the church. It was pedal to the metal though as Thea was hot-footing it to the church and we needed to be back inside for her arrival.
Thea and her entourage joined soon after for what was an incredibly sweet ceremony whereby the adoration between this lovely pair was not just apparent but positively brimming. Thea and Mike fell into full wedding cliche mode when the ring would not go on, resulting in Thea having to basically crow-bar it onto her finger.
Outside, the joyful mishaps continued when Thea’s bridal veil decided to adopt it’s own rather naughty personality and make a beeline for the sky, leading to some quite bizarre shots of the couple wrestling to control it like some kind of escaped pet.
Shots on Brighton seafront in some very iconic locations were the order of the day before heading to The Garden Bar in Hove for a heartfelt and relaxed sunset reception with a cheeky photo-booth, followed by the crowd dancing the night away.
A dream wedding to photograph, full of personality, just like the couple themselves.
Thea and Mike – you were amazing, here’s to a wonderful life together.
