Battle Abbey Wedding Photographer
Battle Abbey is one of Sussex’s real gems. Close to Hastings, it has the style of a castle and the dramatic décor you would expect of a historic location. And yet there’s no sign of anything being old fashioned or out of date.
This place is geared up to host some of the greatest weddings you’ll come across – something I found out first hand when I became Georgy and Andy’s Battle Abbey wedding photographer not so long ago. Here’s why I think this East Sussex venue could be a cracking choice for you, too.
Give your wedding centre stage
The floor-to-ceiling wooden bookcases and wood-panelled walls will catch your eye immediately. Their large presence fills the room with warmth and romance of the classical kind. You feel like you could be on the set for a romantic film, especially as someone strikes up the piano in the corner.
But the brilliant backdrops don’t stop there and as a Battle Abbey wedding photographer, I’ve scouted out the best of all. For a timeless ceremony, you can say ‘I do’ beneath an enormous oil-painting that fills an entire wall. This is the kind of venue where the décor is done for you. All you need to do is bring a few finishing touches to make it your own.
Dance into Battle
The ceilings at Battle Abbey are unbeatable. High, with playful arches and decorative coving, they add charisma to every shot. We’ll make the most of these, whether posing for moody portraits, or sharing a romantic first-look on either side of the door.
Returning to the wood-clad walls of the Duke’s Library to raise a glass as newlyweds, you can imagine that it was once host to historic feasts and celebrations. It’s stately in style but still feels super welcoming. You’ll be amazed how easily you slip into feeling like royalty for the day. And if you can’t do that for your wedding, when can you?
The stone walls and tiled floors bounce the light beautifully. So as the party takes off and the evening draws in, I shoot first dance photos that glow with warmth. Carefully draped fairy lights and thoughtful lighting dotted around the venue creates a cosy backdrop in every corner. The result are authentic, atmospheric images of your celebrations, from start to send-off.
Georgy and Andy’s Battle Abbey wedding photographer
We were treated to great weather for Georgy and Andy’s wedding, although it’s a beautiful venue rain or shine. Georgy and Andy’s fun, relaxed energy made it a pleasure to capture their romance set in Battle Abbey’s charm.
As a Battle Abbey wedding photographer, I specialise in honest, natural looking photos. Following the flow of the day, I aim to put the bride and groom as well as their guests at ease to shoot those impromptu moments and preserve treasured memories. But if you prefer to strike a pose – that’s fine too!
In fact, with Andy’s groomsmen, there was a fair bit of posing. Shot beneath the grand, arched stone doorway, we had fun experimenting with several looks before the bride arrived.
Georgy, Andy and their guests really embraced the spirit of the celebrations, resulting in a characterful mixture of amusing, emotional and more formal images to remember their day by.
If you’re looking for a wedding photographer for your Sussex wedding, I’d love to hear from you.
